Complete Emollient Therapy

For maximum benefit, you should treat eczema and dry skin with a treatment regime of emollient cream or ointment, bath emollient and a substitute to soap. This is called complete emollient therapy.

Hydromol offers complete emollient therapy. Your doctor or nurse will help you with a treatment plan to suit you.

It is also important you find the product(s) that you like and that fits in with your lifestyle. If you like it you are more likely to use it.

The Hydromol range has been designed to ensure efficacy and cosmetic appeal are in balance.

Cosmetic Acceptability

The best emollient therapy in the world will become ineffective if you do not like using it. There has to be a balance between the efficacy of the product and the cosmetic appeal.

There are many different emollient therapy options to choose from:

Ointments are very effective because they have excellent occlusive properties and, therefore, trap moisture in the skin. They are often of a thicker consistency, and because of this they are not seen as the most cosmetically appealing products.

Lotions have little occlusive effect so are not good at trapping the moisture in the skin, but due to their high water content are cooling and light, so are seen as cosmetically appealing.

Creams fall somewhere between ointments and lotions on this spectrum.
