Cosmetic Acceptability
 |
|
The best emollient therapy in the world will become ineffective
if you do not like using it. There has to be a balance between
the efficacy of the product and the cosmetic appeal.
|
There are many different emollient therapy options to choose from:
Ointments are very effective because they have excellent occlusive
properties and, therefore, trap moisture in the skin. They are often
of a thicker consistency, and because of this they are not seen
as the most cosmetically appealing products.
Lotions have little occlusive effect so are not good at trapping
the moisture in the skin, but due to their high water content are
cooling and light, so are seen as cosmetically appealing.
Creams fall somewhere between ointments and lotions on this spectrum.
